Goodwood Revival 2019 is just over two weeks away, and I’m pleased to say that I’m officially Revival ready!
A few weeks ago, we caught up with styling expert, Vicky Booker, who shared some tips to help you get your vintage style on. So impressed was I, with Vicky’s expertise, that I decided, for the first time, to get styled.
As you can imagine, for a man who spends much of his time around four-wheeled friends, this was somewhat out of my comfort zone. But I wanted to step up my game for Goodwood Revival 2019, and so decided to book a session with Vicky.
Shopping – Man’s favourite pastime:
I met Vicky in Chichester a couple of week’s ago. We had a coffee and went through the answers I’d submitted on my client questionnaire. I like to think of this as my induction process… And then we hit the shops. I think we spent about two hours shopping, which was plenty for me.
I have always liked the 50s for its fashion and cars alike. Gentlemen’s outfits of that era have a certain appeal for me. To help me find my 50s fashion look, Vicky took me to a variety of shops. These included the gentlemen’s outfitters Hansfords and a mixture of vintage and charity shops.
I discovered that while it’s very easy to look at images on the internet and be under the impression that ‘a look’ is easily achieved. In reality, it’s very different. Having Vicky with me was really helpful. She knew what colours and styles would suit me, and that meant I achieved ‘my look’ with a 50s vibe.
My Goodwood revival 2019 shopping haul:
It was evident that part of the struggle when shopping for clothes was finding something in the right size. We found several things that just weren’t available in my size. That said, Vicky managed to find a fantastic waistcoat, a beautiful vintage Swedish shirt and a matching cravat in Hansfords. We also picked up a suitable pair of Chino’s from Marks & Spencer and a vintage pair of cuff links from the St Wilfrids vintage store.
Revival ready:
The Revival itself is such a fantastic event, and every year it offers a new experience. This year, as ever, I’m looking forward to meeting friends and soaking up the atmosphere of this unique and world-class event. For me, the highlight is always the racing, that said, this year I’m certainly looking forward to getting dressed up for the occasion.
At South Downs Secure, we ensure that any cars we have the privilege to look after, are always maintained to the highest standards. That way, they’re ready for clients to use at any time. That said, Goodwood Revival 2019, will no doubt see things heating up at South Downs Secure. Part of our role surrounding these events is to make sure we can accommodate timescales. Precise planning allows our clients to enjoy their cars in the best possible way.
A final tip:
Finally, in all the years I’ve attended Goodwood Revival, there’s one thing I’ve learned the hard way. Regardless of your outfit, wear comfortable shoes. If you buy a vintage pair of shoes, make sure they are a good fit and well worn in. You will most certainly do more walking than you think you will.
